CATHOLIC LANGUAGE OF THE HOLY EUCHARIST

  • The BLESSED SACRAMENT a title of the Sacrament of the Eucharist which indicates its supreme position among all the (Seven) Sacraments.

  • HOLY COMMUNION The reception and consumption of the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist or Blessed Sacrament whereby we participate in Christ Himself and in His sacrificial work.

  • MYSTERY OF FAITH A name frequently reserved to the mystery of the Holy Eucharist. In the Tridentine Missal, the words “Mysterium Fidei” are found in the consecration of the Precious Blood. [In the Pauline Missal, the priest celebrant intones them as an invitation to the people to respond with a “Memorial Acclamation” to the double-consecration of the Bread and Wine which has just taken place.]

  • The PRECIOUS BLOOD “In the Blessed Sacrament the Precious Blood is received under the species of Bread equally with the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity (and vice-versa) by virtue of the indivisibility of Christ’s glorified Humanity and of the Hypo-static Union (the union of the divine and human natures in the Divine Person of Christ).”
