THE REAL PRESENCE
The doctrine of the “REAL PRESENCE” holds that “In the Sacrament of the Eucharist the Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ together with His Soul and Divinity are contained truly, really and substantially, and not merely in sign, figure or virtue." (Decree from the Council of Trent).
THREE ERRORS refuted by this Decree:
That the Body of Christ in the Eucharist is only there by REPRESENTATION.
That the Body of Christ in the Eucharist is only VIRTUALLY PRESENT by the effects of the sacrament.
That the Body of Christ in the Eucharist is only there IDEALLY by apprehension and faith.
The REAL PRESNCE is effected by TRANSUBSTANTIATION. Both doctrines are of faith, but they are not to be confused with one another.
